A Book in Order is a static website. There are no accounts, no logins and no newsletter. The short version: we don't collect anything that identifies you, but the retailers we link to and the services we rely on have their own rules.
What stays on your device
The reading tracker saves which books you've ticked off using your browser's
localStorage. That data never leaves your device and never reaches
our servers — we have no server that could receive it. Clearing your browser
data deletes it. It isn't a backup, so it won't follow you to another device.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which reports page views and referrers in aggregate. It sets no cookies and does not fingerprint visitors or build profiles across sites.
Affiliate links
Buy buttons carry a tracking parameter identifying us as the referrer. When you click one, the retailer typically sets a cookie so a purchase made in the following days is credited to us. That cookie is set by them, on their domain, under their privacy policy — not ours. See our affiliate disclosure for the full list.
Book covers
Cover images load directly from Open Library's servers. Your browser makes a
request to covers.openlibrary.org, which means your IP address is
visible to them. Their privacy policy applies to that request.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes request data including IP addresses to deliver pages and block abuse.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data, there's nothing for us to export or delete on request. For data held by the retailers or services above, contact them directly. Questions about this policy: [email protected].
Changes
If this policy changes materially the date at the top will change with it.
Note: this policy describes how the site is built. It is not legal advice, and if you operate in the EU, UK or California you should have a lawyer confirm it meets your obligations before relying on it.
